More about Upper Bukit Timah
History of Upper Bukit Timah
The residential estate known as Bt Timah is located in the western part of Singapore’s Central Region. It is also a planning area.
Located about 10 kilometers from the Central Business district, the town of Bukit Timah is surrounded by various areas such as Central Water Catchment, Tanglin, Clementi, and Queenstown. It has some of the most densest land and luxury condominium clusters in the area. Due to its prime position, it also has a limited supply of public housing.
The Japanese built a Shinto shrine known as the Syonang Jinja in Singapore, which was similar to the controversial Yasukuni shrine in Japan. However, instead of a large shrine, it was a small one. War memorials were also built at the site. During the occupation, British POWs, Japanese commanders, and students would gather at Syonan Jinja to remember those who died.
The area of Bukit Timah is known for its high land value. The race course that used to be located there was opened in 1933. It was closed in 1999 and is now being renovated. The Grandstand, which is located on the land, is a multi-purpose facility that features a Giant supermarket, childcare services, and food outlets. Also, nearby, there are numerous high rise condominiums and houses that are typically expensive in Singapore.
This area is mainly populated by rich and well-off individuals from Singapore and expatriates. Its primary attractions include restaurants such as Sixth Avenue and Turf City. It was then expanded and formed Upper Bukit Timah District 21.
Developer of The Reserve Residences
The URA has selected a joint venture between Sino Group and Far East Organization to develop The Reserve Residences. The two companies submitted a winning bid of about $1 billion.
The bid for the project was valued at about S$1.011 billion, which is equivalent to the land rate of almost $1,000 per square foot. Other developers that submitted joint bids included Mercatus Commercial Trust and Wing Tai Holdings.
The 3.22ha land area located at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jurong Kechil is a strategic location that is close to the Beauty World Metro Station. The Reserve Residences will be a mixed-use project that will feature residential, commercial, and transport hub. It is expected to yield up to 844 units and 20,000 square meters of commercial space.
The large retail, office, and F&B space in The Reserve Residences will contribute to the area’s urban vitality. The project also has a transport hub that will allow residents to connect with the outside world. The development, which is being developed by two prominent developers, features modern facilities that will make living easy for its residents.
